How to solve: Windows 10’s lock screen time is too short!

By default Windows 10's lock screen times out in 1 minute, what I consider extremelly short specially when plugged in!

As this was too short for me, I tried to change it by modifying the power options but I had not luck, I could not find the appropriate settings for that.

I am glad I found out why and how here.

It seems very odd to me but lock screen time setup is not accessible by default so you will need to use regedit to enable access to this setup. Quite odd but true and if you do it works!

So, now, thanks to How to Geek solution I managed to set my lock screen to whatever fits my preference!

Can not embed a pdf file on a Word document - Error message: "The program used to create this object is AcroExch ...To edit this object, you must install a program that can open the object"

When trying to insert a pdf file as an object on Word I was getting the following or similar message over and over:
 "The program used to create this object is AcroExch. That program is not installed on your computer. To edit this object, you must install a program that can open the object"

I thought the problem was with Word since I had recently updated it to Office 2013 but in fact the problem was related to an ADOBE update and security setting. I am not sure what are the bad security risks take bymaking this change but at least I now can insert a pdf object /file on my word documents.

The process to Disable Protected Mode in Adobe Reader DC (this option may be on General tab on other versions) is below:

1.Open Adobe Reader X.
2.From Edit menu select Preferences, Preferences dialog box appears.
3.Select Security category on the list, uncheck or remove tick mark for “Enable protected mode at startup”
Adobe Reader’s Protected Mode will be turned off and now this problem is solved.

I would prefer not to change on this security setting and if you have a better solution please let me know.

How to reduce your Dish Network bill

I feel like I should change the name of this blog to Frugal me but it would take too long. In summary, I was going to cancel my dish network account since I was paying close to $70/month for the most basic package and one international channel. Well, I am glad I found this posting that mentioned about a so called "Welcome Pack", by signing up to this package I managed to lower my bill by around $10 and I also removed the protection plan (another $8 reduction) I had signed up due to some remodeling at my home.  I am happy to be paying ~$20 less on my bill. Thank you for the original poster

The package is called the ‘Welcome Pack’ and most people don’t know that it’s available to ALLDish Network customers, new and old. Why it’s called the ‘Welcome Pack’ is a mystery to me. If you log into your online account you’ll notice that this package is NOT an available option. Currently, the only way you can get the welcome pack is to call them at 1-800-333-DISH and ask for it. Took me 5 minutes to call and get our programming changed.

For more details go to the original posting.

How to solve Thunderbird Lightning calendar appointments showing as overlapping

Have you added a 15min appointment next to another one and see those as overlaping appointments on Thunderbird Ligntning calendar? Something like this:

This has been something I could not fix for quite a while until I finally found this article answered by user called "Decathlon" (THANK YOU Decathlon!)

In summary, if you play with zooming factor (CTRL +/-) you may be able to correct that but it had to do with font size, height of events, number of hours displayed etc. That article suggests the following:

To avoid the problem you have to increase the zoom factor, or you can add some css code in the userChrome.css file in order to reduce the minimum height of the boxes. Without changing the font size, you can try something like:
.calendar-event-box-container {
    margin: 0px !important;
}
but obviously the problem arises again if the zoom factor is too little.
I decided just to change zoom with CTRL + and got this:

Mouse Double Clicks when I only Single Click - Problems

I had this issue on my Logitech Laser wireless mouse M505 model and after of tens of trials and searches to forums this solution from bphillips and confirmation by waigy solved my problem. It does not look it will fix it but it did.

- Turn your Performance Mouse MX OFF
- Remove the battery
- Alternate right and left clicking for roughly 30-seconds
- Unplug the USB receiver and plug into a different USB port (not in a USB hub or extension)
- Replace the battery
- Turn your device back ON

If the issue continues, please try using your mouse while in clean boot mode. To test it you can use the double click speed adjustment in control panel/mouse properties. Set the slider to fast and you should be able to constantly click (up to a few times a second) without opening the folder. Before the fix my mouse was regularly opening this folder with a single click.

How to solve, Windows 7: Keyboard keeps changing language

If you are like me that need to change the windows keyboard to input a foreign language like Japanese you may have experienced the situation where windows keep changing the default input language into something you don't want. Windows shouldn't change the keyboard layout automatically, but it remembers the individual language settings to every application as long as the application is running. To reset the input language to default, the application (process) must be ended and relaunched, or the input language manually changed.

I have researched this subject and have solved this problem by doing the following:

1. In "Region and Language" - tab-> Keyboards and languages->change keyboard->Default input language -> choose your language/country

Hope it helps.
