HighTec Temple

I am always amazed about how the Japanese can embrace the future without discarding their traditions, this is another example of that. If you read Japanese I think you can buy a vault space in this site: http://www.suishoden.jp/

Good alternative to MS Office: OpenOffice.org 3.1 is out

Sam Dean on the blog below talks about major graphics enhancements. I still did not try this version but I can tell you that the former version already had all the features I needed at the right price=free so any enhancements are just upside!

by Sam Dean - May. 07, 2009Comments (1)
The new version 3.1 of the OpenOffice.org suite of open source productivity applications is now available for download. It appears to be a hot download today, too, because I experienced some wait times getting to the OpenOffice site. For this release, users of OpenOffice were asked to vote for their most desired new features, and the wish list helped dictate goals for version 3.1. There are enhanced on-screen graphics and improvements to all the applications in the suite. Here are details on what's under the hood.

Microsoft's Cloud Office

Google has a head start over MS on this one but has also another advantage, they understand the need to support all platform/browser combination. You can only use Office Live if you are running "major" OSs: Microsoft or Max OS, no Linux or Unix (Solaris) support.

Microsoft's cloud Office lands one million users

That's one-tenth of Google Apps then...

One million customers have signed up to Microsoft's Office Live Workspace online collaboration tool, six months after its beta launch.

In comparison, Google's online collaboration technology, Google Apps, has secured 10 million active users two years after its release.

    Customer Service Email Response

How do I remove my information from your site?
Dear Sir or Madam, Please let me know how I can remove my phone records from your reverse search results.
In order for Intelius to “opt out” your public information from being viewable on the Intelius website, we require faxed proof of identity. Proof of identity can be a state issued ID card or driver’s license. If you are faxing a copy of your driver’s license, obscure the photo and the driver’s license number. We only need to see the name, address and date of birth. Please allow 2 to 3 weeks to process your request.

Please fax your information to our customer service department at 425-974-6194.

If you are not comfortable faxing us your information, you can send us a notarized form proving your identity and we will be glad to remove this public information.

    Sincerely,
    Intelius Customer Service

    Track the flu

Not sure this can be considered a technology posting but the mesh up using Google maps and medical info is certainly of big value...you need to click on the original url in order to see it working..there are many of those around since flu is a popular topic these days but this one was the most relevant (since it showed cases nearby = in the Bay Area!)

Tracking the progress of H1N1 swine flu

This map and the data behind it were compiled by Dr. Henry Niman, a biomedical researcher in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, using technology provided by Rhiza Labs and Google. The map was compiled using data from official sources, news reports and user-contributions.
